QUICK ANSWER
Wall-mount openers bolt beside the door and lift with a torsion shaft, so the ceiling stays open for storage or a rack. They need a working torsion setup. Atlas checks that before recommending one.
They are not a fit for every extension-spring door. We will say so on the estimate rather than force the hardware.
What has to be true first
The door needs a torsion shaft the jackshaft can turn, and the door has to be balanced. A broken spring is fixed first. Ceiling belt and chain units stay the right answer when there is no torsion shaft. Programming still includes your remotes.
- 01Ceiling
- Leaves the center of the ceiling open.
- 02Shaft
- Works with torsion springs, not a typical extension-spring pair.
- 03Space
- Needs clear wall beside the door for the head.
- 04Balance
- A heavy door will wear it out the same as any opener.
